Our major ports in Belgium take a special place in the Belgian energy market, with  the largest energy producers and the largest consumers sited next to each other.

On the one hand, a huge potential of (renewable or fossil fuel) energy production sites, specifically concerning large-scale projects on solar, CCGT or wind energy, are to be found in harbour areas, taking into account a specific regime on licensing, property and distribution grids.

On the other hand, large-scale consumers in a limited area could raise specific legal questions as to, direct lines, tolling or wheeling agreements, and heating. Apart from this, specific legislation on off-shore installations and LNG transport is to be taken into account.
