14.11.18 Lydian named Belgium’s Best Law Firm 2018
On 13 November, Lydian was presented with the award for being the Best Law Firm at the Trends Legal Awards. At the gala awards ceremony, held in Brussels for the fifth time under the auspices of business magazine Trends/Tendances, law firms were recognised for their expertise, know-how and innovation. Lydian won the main prize of Best Law Firm in Belgium, having been selected by an independent jury of legal experts in acknowledgement of its overall performance; the trophy was accepted before an audience made up of more than 400 attorneys at law, inhouse counsel and other law practitioners.
Recognition of Lydian’s hard work
To have received the prestigious accolade of Best Law Firm is a great honour for Lydian. Peter De Ryck, Lydian’s Managing Partner: ‘This award comes as the apogee of everything we’ve been building towards for the past 17 years. It is a worthy acknowledgement of the hard work put in by all of our partners, associates and staff. Of course, we naturally owe a great debt of gratitude to our clients for the trust that, time and again, they placed in us over that time. The fact that this award goes to a recipient selected by a jury comprising inhouse counsels working for large Belgian companies and multinationals only adds to the pleasure with which we gratefully accept this endorsement.’
Belgian through and through, a fully independent practice
Lydian is the very first independent Belgian business law practice to have been identified by the Trends Legal Awards as Best Law Firm. That’s quite an achievement, since it’s no easy task to come out on top against the international giants of advocacy. Peter De Ryck again: ‘This award is proof positive of the advances that Lydian has booked over past years. Our no-nonsense, pragmatic approach and our availability when clients need us has allowed us to offer a service modelled on Anglo-Saxon practice at rates that are well in line with the reality of the market in Belgium. This way, our firm has grown into one of the largest on the Belgian legal services market.’
National focus; an international network
That a purely Belgian firm is well able to service an international clientele is demonstrated beyond all question by Lydian’s client base. The firm’s core market is in Belgium, that’s true, but it maintains excellent contacts with other premier independent law firms throughout Europe and indeed worldwide. A closing word from Peter De Ryck: ’The joint working arrangements we have established with our extensive foreign network show that we have all the means to give our clients guidance as they expand internationally, and we’re proud of having a network that we can say with conviction is in no manner inferior to those of the large international firms.’
