Expertise and experience
Tom's practice focuses on real estate law in the broadest sense (purchase agreements, options, easements, flat co-ownership), rental law (commercial leases, office and residential leases) and contracting law (expert opinions, liability law, provisional and final delivery, subcontracting).
Tom provides advice and assistance on the realisation of logistics, commercial and residential real estate projects to the various actors in the real estate sector (construction promoters, (sub)contractors, architects, etc.), focusing on the drafting of different types of agreements (leases, building contracts, construction team agreements, etc.) as well as dispute resolution. In addition, Tom also has extensive expertise in assisting in real estate transactions (share deals, asset deals, due diligence).
Background
Tom studied at the Catholic University of Leuven where he obtained his degree in criminology in 2011 and his law degree in 2016. Tom joined Lydian as a lawyer in 2016, where he was appointed Senior Associate in 2023. Tom was a member of the Dutch Bar Association at the Brussels Bar from 2016 to 2020 and has been a member of the Limburg Bar since 2021.
Publications and speaking engagements
Tom has made significant contributions to the Kluwer publication "Handboek voor projectontwikkeling", "Bestendig handboek privaatrechtelijk bouwrecht", as well as the publication "Statuut, taak, aansprakelijkheid en deontologie van de architect en de ir.-architect". He also wrote a book commenting on the Law of 18 June 2018 reforming co-ownership and also writes for various legal trade journals, such as the Nieuw Juridisch Weekblad, Nieuwsbrief Notariaat and Tijdschrift Huur.
He often speaks at client seminars on topics such as leasing, co-ownership and other developments affecting commercial real estate projects.
He is also an annual lecturer for the "Judicial organisation" course organised by the Dutch-speaking College of Experts Architects of Belgium (NCDAB) in Ghent and Hasselt.
