Jan Maertens is a senior associate in our Real Estate department.

Expertise and experience

Jan has a broad experience in real estate litigation, including expert proceedings (e.g. disputes relating to ten-year liability, hidden defects, construction disputes, etc.), purchase sale disputes and disputes concerning the execution of real estate contracts (e.g. lease agreements, promotion agreements etc.).

He also assists both private and public entities in drafting various types of real estate agreements.

Jan regularly assist clients in the West- and East of Flanders.

Background

Jan obtained a Master of Laws degree from the KU Leuven University (Leuven, Belgium) in 2014 and obtained a Master of Notarial Laws degree from the same university in 2015.

Publications and speaking engagements

Between 2016 and 2023 he was active as a teaching assistant, teaching the course ‘History of Public Law’ to first-year law students at the KULAK (KU Leuven Kortrijk).

Jan serves as a guest lecturer for the students in the Postgraduate real estate studies at the KU Leuven since 2022.

Since 2025, he is a guest lecturer at Embuild West Flanders in Kortrijk.

He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and trainings on various real estate subjects.
