Tine Meurs is an Of Counsel in the Commercial & Litigation Department of Lydian and is a member of our insurance practice.
Before becoming a lawyer, Tine worked as a PhD researcher at the Institute for Insurance Law of the KU Leuven, under supervisor prof. dr. Caroline Van Schoubroeck. She obtained her PhD in Law in 2018 with a thesis on coinsurance.
Tine joined the Brussels bar in 2017 and was a member of Lydian’s insurance practice between 2019 and 2023 and rejoined Lydian in 2026 as Of Counsel, combining her practice with academic activities.
Tine advises on all aspects of insurance law, with a special interest in coinsurance and layering structures, as well as the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) and related legislation, on which she has advised numerous Belgian and international insurers and intermediaries. Furthermore, Tine has assisted Belgian and international insurers in complex coverage disputes and policy reviews of specialized products.
Tine is a member (as an expert) of the Belgian Insurance Commission (Commissie voor Verzekeringen / Commission des Assurances), an advisory committee established by law with the task of consulting on all matters submitted to it by the Minister of Economic Affairs or the FSMA.
Tine has written numerous articles on insurance law, and is currently assisting in the preparation of the newest edition of Grondslagen van het Belgische verzekeringsrecht, a standard handbook on Belgian insurance law. She is a frequently asked speaker, both in Belgium as abroad.
