Kato Aerts and Sophie Vissers from our Employment department contributed to the Women, Business and the Law 2022 Report by The World Bank. We're happy to have contributed to and support such crucial research efforts.

Women, Business and the Law 2022 is the eighth in a series of reports that provide objective measures of legal and regulatory barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and employment in 190 economies. Amidst a global pandemic that threatens progress toward gender equality, the report identifies barriers to women’s economic participation and encourages reform of discriminatory laws.

New this year is a 95-country pilot survey of laws governing childcare -- a critical area where support is needed for women to succeed in paid employment.

A pilot analysis of how laws affecting women’s economic empowerment are actually implemented is also included, highlighting the difference between laws on the books and the reality experienced by women.

For more information, check out the report below or visit the https://wbl.worldbank.org website for a data visualization tool, allowing for comparisons of the data at both the indicator and economy levels.
