About Sandra Lodewijckx

Sandra Lodewijckx is a Partner of our Commercial and Dispute Resolution practices and heads our Insurance and Reinsurance Team.

Before she became a lawyer, she worked for six year in an insurance company (ING Insurance, now Vivium). Thus she has experience from within an insurance company as well as from the legal perspective, which gives her a unique view and understanding of the sector. We say ‘unique’ because no other law firm has that kind of experience in house. Furthermore, she has a degree from the Münchener Rück (Munich, Germany) in Technical Risks.

She is specialised in insurance law, liability issues and pensions law. She assists Belgian and international (re)insurance companies, professional organizations, mutual societies and insurance intermediaries with all insurance-related issues.

She advises and litigates in the fields of life and non-life insurance, distribution of insurance products including new distribution forms, regulatory, compliance and corporate governance, reinsurance, corporate insurance and transfer of portfolios, the development of new insurance products and review of policy wording and premium insurance tax.

She has particular knowledge of the IDD-legislation, in which she has advised numerous Belgian and international insurers.

Her combined knowledge of insurance and pensions makes her also a unique presence on the Belgian market.

Sandra is also a trusted advisor to the legal counsel and the management committee of several insurance companies. Sandra maintains very good contact with insurers, actuaries, academics, insurers’ associations and control authorities.

Sandra is a member of the Antwerp Insurance Club, the Belgian Association of Insurance Lawyers (AJA) and of the Royal Association of the Belgian Insurers (CRAB/ KKVB). She is also a member of the Belgian Pension Lawyers Association (BePLA) and a Member of the Board of Directors of the pension fund for lawyers, bailiffs and other independents (Voorzorgskas OFP). Sandra is also a member of the steering group of the Antwerp Liability Law and Insurance Chair (ALLIC) of the University of Antwerp. Sandra gives various lessons in insurance to University students in the context of this membership. She is finally a member of Women’s Law Network (WLN) and of the Belgian section of the International Insurance Law Association (AIDA).

She is in demand as a speaker on insurance and has written several articles on the subject, including on the subject of the introduction of class actions in the Belgian legal system. Sandra regularly conducts in-house courses.

Sandra is mentioned in the Guide to the World's Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers as one of the outstanding practitioners in this field in Belgium.
